Resident Engineer Project Overview:
The Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 Project is a major infrastructure undertaking to extend the Q Line service in Manhattan. The project will be delivered through multiple overlapping design and construction contracts. The Project Management Consultant (PMC) will be a vital part of an integrated Project Management Team (PMT) responsible for administering, managing, and ensuring the successful completion of the project safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Position Summary:
The Resident Engineer (RE) serves as the on-site representative of the program management team, responsible for overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring project compliance with design specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety standards. The RE plays a vital role in coordinating between contractors, consultants, clients, and regulatory agencies, ensuring successful delivery of engineering and construction projects under the broader Program Management scope.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the client’s on-site representative during construction.
- Monitor daily construction activities for quality assurance and compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
- Coordinate with design engineers, construction contractors, inspectors, and program management staff.
- Conduct regular site inspections and lead field meetings with stakeholders.
- Review and approve contractor submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress payments.
- Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, logs, as-builts, and photographs.
- Identify and mitigate construction-related risks or delays; escalate critical issues when necessary.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA and project specific requirements.
- Participate in project meetings and prepare status reports for senior management and client stakeholders.
- Ensure environmental, permitting, and regulatory compliance on-site.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum [7-10] years of experience in construction supervision, site engineering, or resident engineering.
- Experience with large-scale or multi-site program management environments preferred.
- Familiarity with project delivery methods (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, Design Build).
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Engineering
- 10 Years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III
Salary:
$90-$95/Hr.
